Wiltshire Baptisms and Burials
We have transcripts for most Wiltshire parishes, from start of available records up to 1837.

Wiltshire Varied Index
We call this our ‘Varied Index’ because it's so varied, but you could think of it as a ‘Personal Name Index’, and we use this to find out more about your ancestors.
All of these can lead to records, and it’s these records which this index helps you to find.
We have about 425,000 entries dating between 1242 and 1900.
Some of the sources used for this index, are: Apprentices, Army Personnel, Bankrupts, Bastardies, Coroner’s Reports, Court papers, Directory entries, Early census entries, Enclosures, Incumbent’s visiting books, Inquests, Insurance Records, Machine Breakers, Manor Records, Mentioned in Wills, Names from Reference Books, Newspaper snippets, Non-conformists, Obituaries, Overseers, Pedigrees, Poor Law Union, Quarter Sessions, Removal Orders, Rents, Settlement Examinations & Certificates, Tax Records, Tithe Awards, Transportations, etc.
Entries from this index are now available on FindMyPast, but we can also search this for you.
- Was your ancestor in Prison?
- Did they have an illegitimate child?
- Were they in trade?
- Maybe they ran a pub or inn?
- One thing we can be sure about – they paid tax !
All of these can lead to records, and it’s these records which this index helps you to find.

Location of Document guides
We have a set of multi-page guides giving details about the sources for Wiltshire's documents, and the years covered. There are 320 guides, each covering a particular parish. These guides were mostly produced in the 1990s, before the internet gave easier access to such information, but they can still be of use in seeing what's available, in just a single source.
The Guides contain information under headings covering: Parish Registers, Register Transcriptions & Indexes, Bishops Transcripts, Monumental Inscriptions, Non-Conformists, Parish Chest Documents, Manor Records, Tithes, Enclosures, Glebe Terriers (Land Surveys), Censuses, Taxation, Poor Law Union, Wills, Bibliography, Documents for sale, Biography & Genealogy, Miscellaneous, and Local Registrars.
We can email you a single guide for as little as 50p. Just ask!
